Yashashri Masurkar on location sharing on social media: Only your closest people should know your whereabouts

When it comes to location sharing, actress Yashashri Masurkar is very careful not to. Recently, there was news that an Ecuadorian model/influencer was shot dead at a restaurant after attackers found her location on social media. There was another incident where a Spanish travel blogger was raped by seven men while her husband was beaten black and blue as the attackers found their location via a post.

“I usually don’t share my whereabouts and don’t even post in real time. I am very careful about my privacy and personal space. Why do you need to tell people where you are all the time? It’s alright if it’s a special place or occasion when you let people know but what’s with this obsession of feeling so important?” she says.

Of course, if it's part of your work, you should share your location, but not otherwise, she says, “You can obviously share the places when you are promoting or appreciating the place or even having fun with people or travelling to someplace beautiful…because then you are sharing your joy,” she says, adding, “Share pictures not your real time locations. Only your closest people should be aware of your whereabouts all the time. No one else.”
